It is a book that was on our family bookshelf when I was growing up, a copy that also had Manon des Sources included and pictures of a young Gerard Depardieu on the back! I picked it up one day when I was ill or bored, having dismissed it for years, and I loved it. It is the only book I have read more than 4 times, I don’t think it’s brilliant or life changing. I just find it a good, easy read about simply trying to survive on the land.
