Human Library

A Human Library is like any other library, but instead of borrowing a book, visitors can borrow a person for conversation – a Living Book. The concept of the Human Library was developed in Copenhagen in 2000, and has since been adopted by people all over the world, including us.

OUR HUMAN LIBRARIES EACH HAVE A THEME…

FASHION

At London’s Whitechapel Gallery for Hubbub‘s 2015 Refashion East, Living Books included a Primark sales assistant, an 80-year-old fabric merchant, a model and a high-end tailor.

FOOD

During the European Week for Waste Reduction, and in partnership with Hubbub, our Human Library at SOAS was filled with a chef, a butcher, and a forager and many more.

HOME

For the 2016 London International Festival of Theatre, our Human Library included a refugee playwright, a nomadic writer, ex-prisoners, interior designers, a property guardian, an urban planner and a Calais Jungle volunteer.

AGE

During the Perth International Arts Festival, our Living Books discussed cross-generational friendships, saying farewell to family members, the power of teenagers, genetic research into aging and much more.
