Arctic Dreams by Barry Lopez

Donated by Nick Drake, who says...

This book is one of the finest and most moving I have ever read. In writing of poetic lucidity, it takes us to the Arctic, its lands, animals, people, stories and histories. It reveals a winter Eden, of mirages and Shamanic visions. It reminds us of the powers of Nature, and of how wildernesses are necessary to life. It explores how the Arctic, in its light and dark, makes us think and dream. It also stands as a lament for a landscape we are destroying, for the ice is melting, and we know why; as the Inuit say, we are the people who have changed nature.
