Book 0255

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

Donated by Deborah Sugg Ryan, who says...

From the first line – “I write this sitting in the kitchen sink” – this book drew me in when I first read it as a teenage girl. I have reread it many times as as an adult, as my dogeared copy testifies. The teenage heroine, Cassandra Mortman, is both vulnerable and wise beyond her years. During this coming of age novel Cassandra grows from a girl to a woman. The book will make you laugh and it will make you cry. It is as light as a feather but also has real depths in its exploration of teenage emotions. Utter bliss.
